Google is broken?

400 Bad Request

Google
Error

Bad Request

Your client has issued a malformed or illegal request.

That's what lynx http://google.com/ gives.

That's what lynx http://google.com gives.

That's what lynx http://google.ca/ gives.

That's what lynx http://google.ca gives.

That's what lynx http://google.com/ig/ gives.

That's what lynx http://google.com/ig gives.

That's what lynx http://mail.google.com/ gives.

That's what lynx http://mail.google.com gives.

Are you noticing a pattern yet? Even omitting the trailing slash, google seems rather broken. If I could access google.com, perhaps I could look up an email address to write and complain, but obviously not even gmail is accessable.

Google should get their act together and fix this ASAP.

Someone who can reach them, please write them and tell them this. Point them to this post, if you like. You would think someone the size of google would know how to run a site without breaking it.

Dude, I'm not sure what you did but I think that is a problem with your lynx. Mine works correctly. I just tested it on two different machines - one with a recent version of the browser, and one with an older one.

Both work as evidenced here.

What OS are you running? Which version of Lynx? Did you install it from a package or did you compile it yourself? Are you missing dependencies?

Are you sure you have internet connection? Are you sure you have a valid dhcp lease? Try doing ifdown eth0 and then ifup eth0 to get a new ip or something.

Anyways, good luck with that. Let me know if I can help somehow :)

The problem occurred on a box with package lynx_2.8.5-2ubuntu0.5.10.1_i386.deb (via apt-get install lynx, on an Ubuntu Breezy (5.10) box.) Since apt should pull in any dependencies, I presume they are in order.

As for the internet connection, it's how I posted, so I guess it's okay. :-)

I've even rebooted the (laptop) machine since then, and the connection brings me here, but lynx doesn't bring me google still (unless a 400 counts.)

There was a bit of a discussion on #ubuntu earlier and it appears to be happening to others as well, but not consistently to all.

Don't you hate inconsistent problems? :-)

Oh, there seems to be something possibly related at

Heh.. Interesting... Maybe one of the mirrors has a funky copy of the package or something?

Have you tierd removing it and installing again?
